Perhaps I havent played this game as much as I should of but I have played this game and to say it was fantastic is an understatement. This i where the fat plumber made his debut on a game of his own and 40 million gamers cant be wrong. Anyone who has played another mario game before knows the plot, Princess Peach gets captured by bowser and you have to get your fat arse over to bowsers castle to save her. The best thing about this game is the simplicity of it all. There are only two buttons, one to jump, one to dash. And with them two buttons makes an amazing game. Two buttons. The gameplay is simple and forgiving and it likes to hold your hand and help you (not in that way). Yet further on in the game the enemies get tougher, and more of them appear. And this game also introduces the famed secret exits which had not been seen in a game before and have become a staple of the 2-D mario's. Just finding the secret exit on the second level should be one of the highlights of any gamers life. Look everyones found that exit at least once in their lives havent they?
I couldnt tell you about how good the graphics were because i dont have the NES and I dont know what other games look like (Ive played it on Super Mario All Stars) To me they look quite simplistic but simplicity worked before on this game so I guess thats alright. The sound is just a couple of different sounds put together but its become one of the best known theme tunes in the world so ive got to give it that. Ive heard that on the NES you cant save it so on their it would take you between 2-5 hours to finish this without taking any shortcuts so its quite short compared to other games of this generastion but remember this was made 21 years ago so we can let it off with that.
All in all, you got to give this game credit just because it basically created the video game genre that we know today and because its a simply brilliant game
