Nintendo's Sequel to the hit Super Mario Galaxy is worth the wait!
Genre: Adventure
Developer: Nintendo
System: Nintendo Wii
Total Score: 95/100
Value Score: 9.5/10
• Story: 7/10
o Super Mario Galaxy 2's storyline at first seems like a re-hash of the first game, it pretty much is, collecting power stars, princess peach gets kidnapped again, helping a race of little stars named Lumas find their way back home or whatever. Only twist is that Bowser wants to take control of the universe which I guess is the same as the first game as well...regardless, the storyline is ok regardless of it being a remake of sorts.
• Characters: 9/10
o SMG2 introduces the players to a few new characters, but not as much as the first game, though there are cameo appearances of characters such as Rosalina from the first game, pretty much what makes the score so high is that SMG2 re-introduces alot of the forgotten characters of the Mario universe, both good and evil, one of the major characters which are re-introduced to the Mario universe is Yoshi who was pretty much not even mentioned in the first game. Along with that some cameo appearances of old enemies which have not been seen since the Super Mario Brothers days.
• GamePlay: 10/10
o Super Mario Galaxy 2's gameplay is pretty much the same as the first game, however they introduced a few new power ups, brought back the power ups from the first game, and along with that brought back some power ups that were not used since the SMW days. One of the most major differences this game has from the first game is that SMG2 has some 2D level plays which brings a nostalgic feeling to old players who have played the older 2D mario games. Super Mario Galaxy 2 also re-introduces the world map theme that was famous for the first 4 major mario games of old times. Other than that, the controls fit well perfectly with the wii-mote, no complaints whatsoever.
• Graphics:10/10
o Every major Mario Adventure game that Nintendo develops, their graphics seem to improve more and more, SMG2's pixel graphics seem to have some improvement from the first game, though very hard to see the difference. The new levels are well made and give that realistic feeling when you go to a beach and water like level, nothing seems out of place.
• Sound: 10/10
o The voice overs from the first Super Mario Galaxy game have been recycled to this game, but there's no complaints on that, the new sounds of the new enemies and new power ups are well made, the sounds are well done to the point you cant even tell they were looped.
• Music: 10/10
o Nintendo decided to stay with the orchestral group that created the music for the first game, thus doing so they have created yet another masterpiece in terms of OST. There are some similar tunes from the first game which are recycled but there are alot of new themes, and a new remixes of older game songs which gives the player a nice nostalgic feeling.
• Length: 7/10
o Super Mario Galaxy 2's length is no different from the first game, however due to the fact there are so many levels and that some parts of the game require you to go back to older worlds, your time is used up to travel around the universe, alot more than the first game.
• Replay Value: 9/10
o Super Mario Galaxy 2's replay value is alot higher than the first mario game, not only do you get the chance to go back and play as luigi like the first game, but there is a secret world with secret levels, so even when you finish the main storyline, there are still some new levels for you play on, along with that, once you complete getting all the power stars from the main storyline, you will be pushed to collecting green stars which is another task for the player to accomplish.
• Player Value: 10/10
o Super Mario Galaxy 2 took everything that was good in the first game and made it better, Nintend re-introduced alot of old enemies and even added a cameo level from one of the earlier mario games. Gameplay and Graphics have never been better, Storyline is a bit the same, music is incredible, perhaps the best in the series. Alot of replay value than most mario games, this game is really worth getting!
