Fun single-player, amazing multi-player, but can get repetitive.
In the single-player aspect of the game there are tournaments to enter. 3 different Cup Battles consist of a round-robin tournament, and 1 is more of a round-robin, then a short playoff. The Super Cup battles are the same as Cup Battles, but with twice as many games played. The game play is fresh and exciting, a short game of 5 on 5 soccer. Choosing 1 captain and a 4-man team of other players will create your team. The captains are familiar faces from the Mario games, Mario, Luigi, Peach, DK, Wario, and Daisy. And some not so familiar faces; Waluigi and Yoshi. Players will gain power-ups, which can be used against opponents; these can range from shells, to mushrooms. The Super Striker is intuitive but difficult to get to work, but when performed perfectly can score you 2 points. From time to time, Bowser will drop in and disturb your game – breathing fire, shooting shells, and tilting the field. The graphics are pretty descent, as well as the sound. The players do make some funny noises when you slam them into the electric fence bordering the field. But it all seems to just get to repetitive over time. The fields all play the same despite that they look a little different. Overall, it’s a great game for anyone and is best enjoyed by friends playing together.
