The most popular sport in the world has finally arrived in the Mushroom kingdom, and it's great fun. The cool thing about Mario sports titles is that they offer an alternative to those who like sports games but are tired of sims like FIFA or PGA Tour, or MVP Baseball. And they also can make any given sport more appealing. You don't like Soccer, or Golf? Well, add a touch of Mario and that sport has become much more bearable. For me in particular, the fact that SMS is a soccer game is already good in itself since I love soccer, but the addition of all the madness that comes with a Mario game, such as Red and Green shells, bob-ombs, banana peels, and such make of this an insanely fun game. And Bowser dropping in in the middle of a game to create chaos is simply priceless. It's fun in single-player, but like other Mario sports games, multi-player is where the game really shines. But there's two things I found disappointing about the game. The super moves offer impressive graphical effects, but the animations are two slow, and they disrupt the fast pace of the game. Another thing is that there's not a great deal of modes to play. There's Grudge match and there's the usual Cup tournaments, but there's no mini-games at all. As for unlockables, there's stadiums and there's also a super team made of robots. Super Mario Strikers is simply too much fun, and if you're not a soccer fan already, this game will make one of you.
