The first installment of Mario on the Nintendo GameCube is good, but could improve.

User Rating: 8.4 | Super Mario Sunshine GC
Super Mario Sunshine was one of the most anticipated games for the Nintendo GameCube in 2002 when it was released; however, many fans of the Mario series were surprised to find that the game wasn't nearly as well planned as previous Mario games had been. Others thought it was one of the best games they had ever played.

Super Mario Sunshine has great gameplay. The game has enough variety in it to keep the player occupied for a fairly good while. It has quite a few levels on it that vary in difficulty and has a few characters in it that remind fans of the series of the older games.

The game introduced a new style of attacking enemies that the previous games didn't have. FLUDD, a water pump that straps to Mario's back, can be used to complete various tasks throughout the game. It has four nozzles. The spray nozzle, which is the default and is always available, sprays water at Mario's enemies and can be used to clean up goop in the surrounding area. The hover nozzle, which is the default alternate nozzle and can be switched out for another nozzle, allows Mario to hover in the air for a short time. It's handy for getting around some obstacles. The turbo nozzle, which replaces the hover nozzle, can be used to make Mario move at a fast speed and allows him to smash through some obstacles. The rocket nozzle, which replaces the hover nozzle, allows Mario to fly up high in the air, but it doesn't let him hover when he reaches his highest point. This can be handy for reaching high-up platforms.

Although FLUDD was a creative idea that works well with the game's island setting, it doesn't make fans feel like they're playing a Mario game at all. FLUDD makes fans miss the old jump and smash method of attack.

Super Mario Sunshine has outstanding graphics. They feature special effects that make water reflective, heat steam in the distance, VERY waves, and other things that make the game all the more real. These graphics do a great job of putting the Nintendo GameCube's graphics system to work.

The music on Super Mario Sunshine is excellent, but the voice actors are far from fitting each character's personality. The characters voices don't sound like that character talking and almost give the player the impression that the voice was thrown in as a last-minute thought.

Super Mario Sunshine is a great game to invest in, but it could be better. You might want to think twice if money is hard for you to come by, since the game isn't a typical Mario game.

The game has some technical issues, such as slow-down that take away from the game. It also has some issues with it's camera that make it hard to do somethings. Overall; however, the game is great and is worth buying if your looking for a new game to try out. Just don't expect a traditional Mario game.
