Hi, I’m back once again. This time I’m going to review Yoshi’s Island for the GBA. Yoshi’s Island for the GBA is a re-release of the classic Yoshi’s Island game on the SNES. A game said to be one of the best platformers ever.

Yoshi’s Island starts off with a cut scene of Baby Mario falling from the sky and landing on Yoshi Island. FYI, this is the actual Mario, Mario and Peach still don’t have any babies. :P Anyway, Luigi lands in a different place, and with the Yoshi’s clan help Mario is determined to rescue his brother. Been awhile since you’ve had to rescue someone else besides Peach. In Yoshi’s Island you control Yoshi, with baby Mario on your back. Every time you get hurt baby Mario will fall off Yoshi’s back and will float around in a bubble crying his butt off, which is really annoying after a while. You must get baby Mario back on your back before a timer hits zero. The timer begins at ten, but you can increase it to 30 by finding star points in the levels. Each level you can get a max of 100 points. You can get points by collecting red coins, flowers, and star points. This is a very good mechanic which will make you want to go back and play through the levels over and over to unlock the extra stages.

As you play through Yoshi’s Island you will travel through six unique worlds and fight some pretty wired bosses. Each world has its own theme. These worlds are beautifully made and are a blast to play through. And each boss is a regular enemy made big by Kamek, baby Bowser baby sitter or something. These battles are unique but aren’t very hard. It also throws a few power ups here and there. You can eat water melons and sit then out like bullets, which is very fun. :D You can also get special power ups. You can turn into, among others, a train, a helicopter, and a car. This is just a sampling of the fun and wacky power ups in Yoshi’s Island. Once you beat the game you can go back and unlock the extra levels. Each world has ten levels. Once you beat the game once you unlock the secret stage for each world. These levels are a step ahead in the hardness level compared to the main stages. But these still aren’t pull your hair out hard. If you won’t pull your hair out levels then you can unlock the Extra stages by getting 800 points overall in the world. These levels are by far the hardest to beat and unlock. Yoshi’s Island has a very artistic style to it. It looks as if the game was entirely hand drawn. This fits quite well with in the game. And the music is also amazing. The game has music you won’t here in any other games, besides other Yoshi games. The music goes hand to hand with the style of the game and is a welcome inclusion to the game. Besides the main game, Yoshi’s Island for the GBA has Mario Bros. thrown in. This is not the platformer Super Mario Bros. for the NES. But the game with the pow and flipping over enemies to get points. Remember? No, well don’t feel bad. This game isn’t the great, but it’s a nice touch. It also supports multiplayer, but it is still nothing special.

Overall Yoshi’s Island is a great platformer. A game this good doesn’t come out often. And even if you played the original Yoshi’s Island on the SNES you will still love this game. Yoshi’s Island was one of the best platformers of all time, and this remake is just as good.
