The expectations were very high when Nintendo announced a sequel to the ultimate platform game Super Mario World. But did Super Mario World2: Yoshi’s Island live up to these expectations? Read on to find out.

The story goes… A baby (Mario) falls down on Yoshi’s Island and it appears that it’s one of a twin. The other twin has been kidnapped and Yoshi feels obligated to help them to get back together.

The subtitle for Super Mario World 2 is Yoshi’s Island and that’s also the difference in gameplay. This game focuses more on Yoshi than on Mario, which is not really a bad thing. The reason that Yoshi became so popular in Super Mario World is that it was fun to ride him, his long tongue came in handy many times en most importantly: he looked so cute (lol). So I think that was also the reason to make him the main character in Super Mario World 2.

Yoshi has to protect baby Mario at all costs. The thing is, when Yoshi gets hurt, baby Mario falls off his back. When this happens a timer starts to countdown and when the timer hits zero then the evil koopa’s will kidnap baby Mario and it’s Game Over.

The graphics in the game look stunning. It has a somewhat comic look and it simply looks great! The environment and the levels also look amazing and look a bit like paintings. The sound in the game is also very good. Music sounds very happy and for the SFX goes the same. It’s all very good!

Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island is a great platform game and is a great addition to your SNES-collection. So if you haven’t already, get it!
