A Mario game you can't miss!

User Rating: 10 | Super Mario World: Super Mario Advance 2 GBA
First off, I would like to say that this is possibly the best GBA game of all time. Starting life on the SNES, it was later ported to the Gameboy.

Mario, Luigi and Peach go on vacation to Dinosaur Land and like any Mario story, Peach is kidnapped by Bowser. You play as Mario or Luigi, travelling through the 8 worlds in Dinosaur Land to save the princess. Yoshi joins you on your adventure and becomes your trusty "steed".

This game's graphics and soundtrack are stunning. It's warm colours and detailed drawings are sure to please. Not to mention, the soundtrack features a wide selection of upbeat music and some spooky themes, depending on the mood of the level.

The goal of this game is simple, get from the beginning of the stage to the end of the stage, where a big pole thing awaits. Some levels have secret exits, which are unlocked with a key that you can pick up somewhere on the stage. There are 8 worlds, each world having many unique and different levels, from water levels, to ghost houses, to underground levels. Difficulty of each level increases as you advance further into the game.
Controls too, are simple, use Left and Right on the D Pad to move, Down to duck, Up to enter doors, A button to jump, B to run, pick up objects, or throw fireballs with the Fire Flower, R to spin jump or hop off Yoshi, L to look forward. There are other controls but I won't get into so much detail. This game features a few power ups: the Mushroom (which makes you grow bigger and survive 1 hit), the Fire Flower (which lets you throw fireballs), the Feather (which allows you to fly), the Star (which gives you invincibility for a short period of time). Not as much power ups as some other Mario games, but enough to get you through the game without much frustration. To add to the power ups, Yoshi can also swallow different coloured shells which give him powers. Red Shell (which he can spit out to release fire balls), Blue Shell (which lets him fly), Yellow Shell (which lets him shake the ground when he lands), Green Shell (which he can spit out to knock enemies). There are also different coloured Yoshi's which you can rescue and use as your "steed".
Speaking of enemies, there are tons of different enemies in this game. In each world, there is also a castle in which you fight one of Bowser's "koopalings", which are the bosses. Bowser himself appears as the final boss in the game.
Once you have beaten Bowser, unlocked all the levels, you might feel like putting the game down and moving on to something new. But, if you're really into it, or just don't have anything better to play, you'll want to collect each of the 5 Dragon Coins in each level. If you really want to get away from Dinosaur Land and play something a little different, the game comes packaged with the original Mario Bros, which will entertain you for a short while.

Super Mario World is an amazing 2D platformer that will entertain for years to come. If you like the Mario series, or just enjoy 2D platformers, this game is sure to please!
