User Rating: 10 | Super Metroid SNES
Note: This game was requested by GS Jones 1994, thankyou! I am a massive Metroid fan, the Metroid games I own are Metroid, Super Metroid, Metroid Prime, Metroid Prime 3, Metroid Prime Hunters and Other M. Now, onto the review. Super Metroid is the sequel to Metroid 2 on the Gameboy and the events that happened in Metroid 2 carried over to this game. The story is that your have captured the last metroid larva and you are returning to the space station, as you make it, Ridley attacks the scientists working there and steals the larva and you must get it back. The game is set on planet Zebes and you must collect different beams, different upgrades, kill bosses and get the larva. The graphics are fantastic! Colourful, space-like atmosphere really makes the game stand out from the other games on the SNES. I might go as far as they are the best 16-bit graphics I've ever seen.
The controls are perfect, absolutely no complaints whatsoever. Jumping, shooting, moving and aiming is all flawless. The music is top-notch, moody tunes darken up the atmosphere and it fits in well with the entire game. The boss battles are challenging but fun. You will have to be a hardcore gamer to get far in this game, luck will get you nowhere. You can acquire certain suits and abilities for Samus which will help you throughout the game such as the screw attack which will make you jump higher and the varia suit which will protect you from heat. Just like any other Metroid game you can acquire energy tanks which will boost your health, make sure you conserve health or you'll be dead. Super Metroid is a magnificent game, with Excellent graphics, superior controls, great boss battles, very helpful abilities, solid gameplay and overall a masterpiece. The only down side was that the difficulty could get out of hand for newcomers and the backtracking is insane but overall it is one of Nintendo's greatest achievements. Download it now.
