Cons
We had to wait for 13 years to play it again.
This is one of the best games you could ever possibly get for the Snes, and its still one of the most awesome games you could play now! Thanks to Nintendo bringing out the Virtual Console for the Wii, were able to buy classic games, and play them on your Wii. This would be the best example of why we thank Nintendo for the Virtual Console!
A general gist through the story of the series is there is a species of deadly parasitic jellyfish beings (the metroid) that suck life out of any living being, and produce a large amount of energy. Which attracts the attention of the Space Pirates, thinking the metroids can be used as a power source for their equipment. Samus's job with them is to prevent the space pirates from getting their hands on them. She went to Planet Zebes and took down Mother Brain; there assumed leader. Her next mission was to wipe out metroids on the Planet SR-388, he killed all but one metroid, who to quote "Followed me around like a confused child". She delivered it to the Space Station Ceres, which she gave to the scientists for research. It is the last metroid.
This game starts you off with the whole story like I gave you, but moments after, it was attacked by the Space Pirates, who was lead into their by the deadly enforcer Ridley; a gigantic pterodactyl/dragon alien life form that has been rebuilt every time Samus had defeated her. However, Ridley and the Space Pirates managed to escape with the last metroid and headed to Zebes, where you must find it and take out the leaders.
The game play in this game is downright awesome, move around with analog stick or dialog pad, press the shoulder buttons to aim in different directions, press buttons to shoot, dash, jump and practically all important aspects of platform games themselves. Ofcourse, you must shoot enemies to kill them, some take more hits, some can't be hurt without a specific kind of beam, beams are your weapons, and they are found in various area's of the game. There are other things you can use as weapons such as missiles, super missiles, bombs, screw attack, and various other tools to get around Zebes such as the grappling hook and X-ray visor (It appears in Metroid Prime) and various other items such as Energy Tanks and Reserve Tanks.
There are also bosses, that are usually larger then you. That are usually attacked by shooting them in the mouth or just plain shooting them. Examples of bosses with special tactics are Crocomaire, a giant melted cave lizard, that is shot in the mouth rapidly, pushing him back into the lava behind him. Spore Spawn, which is invincible when his mouth isn't open and Phantoon, which can only be hurt when his eye is open, and when he is visible. There are even challenging enemies found in Zebes, like the well-trained Space Pirates in Norfair; they block your shots and can only be attacked when they go gold. Have fun taking them on.
The graphics in this game are phenomenal for a Snes game, consisting of such large bosses and several samus sprites, one for each direction even much. The graphics in this game are impressive and sharp and are guaranteed to 'wow' you. Another good part of this game is the replayability, once you finished it once, your strongly compelled to finish it again. Giving a bang for your 800 points. There are multiple endings, theres the bad ending, the good ending, and the best ending. The best occurs if you do it a general way. The bad is expected if you haven't finished the game quickly.
The music really adds atmosphere to this sci-fi game and the sounds in this game like the firing of a beam are fine for this game.
Theres not much else to say, get it for the Wii Virtual Console for 800 points. You heard me when I say, its perfect in nearly everyway.
