When it comes to Nintendo classics one can't mention Mario without also including Metroid. The original Metroid for the NES was ground breaking and while the Gameboy sequel was good, the lack of color took away from it's brilliance. When the 3rd instalment came out for the Super NES nintendo had succeeded in creating a classic franchise that continues today. Super Metroid is a stunning visual game that not only is fun, but challenging as well. While Super Metroid isn't a extremely difficult game, it has just enough challenge to never disappoint and more importantly never frustrate the player. The replay value is very high. Like in other Metroid games your 1st run through you probably won't be concerned or able to collect all the upgrades, but what makes it fun to replay is the desire to complete the game with a 100% collection rate. While the 3-D versions of the newest installments of the Metroid series are great, Super Metroid feels just as good today as it did when it 1st came out.
