If there is one game that deserves an honorable mention in my childhood history of gaming, Super Metroid is that game.

"Destroy the Space Pirates, and save the last larva Metroid in the Galaxy at any cost...the price of failure is unthinkable."
-Galactic Federation Command

This was the line that echoed in my head when I first received this game as a birthday present (along with the SNES and one controller). The one special factor about this game was that this was my very first video game when I was merely 3 years old-and to this day, the memories of this game lives on in my head. If I still had my SNES, I would fire it up and play this game again. This game built the childhood memories of my life.

Storyline is simple: You're Samus Aran, one of the Galactic Federation's most feared and powerful Bounty Huntress in the universe. After the Space Pirates attempted to utilize the parasitic lifeform known as a "Metroid," the officials of the Galactic Federation comissions you to exterminate the population of the parasitic species on their home planet, SR388. After your extermination mission on SR388, you spared nothing on the planet-except for one mere Metroid baby that thinks you're its mother, and for the benefit of the human race, take it to the Ceres Space Colony for further research.

A few minutes later, the colony is attacked. Returning to the space station, you step into the dark corridors of the station only to see it completely deserted and devoid of any life...

The baby Metroid was not there. It had been stolen. But by...who?

Controls: Newcomers may find the controls confusing (I sure did) because the new button assortment on the SNES Controller has created a whole new control schematic for the game. With a bit of practice, new players will eventually get the control scheme down.

Gameplay: Think of Mario armed with an assortment of weapons and a massive maze of tunnel networks and a variety of terrain. This is how the game is like.

Enemies: Zoomers, Skrees, Metroids, you name it...they are all in this game, along with a few enemies. New bosses will also make an appearance.

There are also a couple of new hazards in this game that weren't present in previous Metroid releases.

Music: For some reason, the music in this game wasn't as catchy as the original Metroid on the NES, but that's just my opinion. Other people may think in a different way.

Power-Ups: A LOT of new powerups have been added to this game since the last Metroid game, Metroid II: Return of Samus. Super Missiles, the Gravity Suit, Power Bombs, X-Ray Scope and the Grapple Beam are among a large variety of power-ups that you'll come across in the game.

This game was a masterpiece during its days on the SNES, and forever in my heart, it will always be and never will be forgotten.
