Super Metroid is a 2D platformer for Wii Virtual Console, originally for the SNES. What makes this the best Metroid game when this is 13 years older than some of the other Metroid games? Well lets find out!

Simply put, Super Metroid is the Metroid game that has all the series best features, and does them all the right way.

You play as Samus, again, continuing events following the previous Metroid title. Samus has left the last Metroid larva left in the universe to the hands of the scientists at the Ceres Space Station.

After recieving a distress call from said station, she finds Ridley, back and better than ever, on board with the Metroid larva in his hands! After a long battle, Ridley escapes with the larva, and activates the self-destruct switch on the station. Samus escapes as the station is destroyed, and goes after Ridley.

The rest of the game involves you landing on the infamous Planet Zebes for a second time, hunting down Ridley, finding the Metroid larva, and apparently, also destroy the Space Pirate colony that is stationed there. It's gonna be a bumpy ride.

Super Metroid at the time of its SNES release, had some of the most compelling graphics ever invented at that point, and they are still just as astonishing on the Wii this time.

You play using your choice of, the Wii classic controller, or the Gamecube Controller. You are also given the option to assign a certain move or attack to whichever button on the controller you wish.

Super Metroid is a deep game, so deep you won't to reach the surface. What I mean by this is there is so many features in the game. Loads and loads of aliens and monsters to shoot, loads and loads of weapons to collect, and loads loads and loads of cool boss battles.

Speaking of boss battles, they are epic. The battles presented here stunned gamers everywhere when it was released for the SNES. One boss battle even took up two screens! There is a great deal of challenge here, and you should have a swell time blasting away at them at your own will.

Super Metroid also introduced a couple new, important details into the series. The map, the grappling beam, and a few other smaller things that make big change in the future.

This is one long game, Zebes is huge, and you will have to visit each and every section if you wish to advance. This game will definently keep you busy!

Super Metroid also has an amazing soundtrack. All the songs you hear will definently capture all the spirit of the game, whether you are trekking along a dark, unexplored cave, or fighting a strange monster that just won't die.

The morph ball also plays a more important role than ever. Samus uses the morph ball as her smaller, alt. form. It will hels you progress through narrow, challenging thunnels and even defeat a whole mess of bad guys.

All these things are true for both the SNES and the Wii Virtual Console version, which really says something for how well the game has aged.

Overall, Super Metroid is wonderful Metroid fun. With all the shooting, sci-fi, Samus action you want, it is easily the best Metroid game!
