Even though the gameplay turly is better then the prequal, this game might feel a little old. But SSBM is a worthy buy.
User Rating: 8.5 | Super Smash Bros. Melee GC
Gameplay: The game improves everything from its prequel, Super Smash Bros. for the N64. Like the prequel, this game is a 2D fighting game with 3D graphics. The sequel has even more characters and arenas then before, and unlocking them is worth it. In addition to beating the crap out of Nintendo characters, there's a new single player mode that's pretty interesting, called "Adventure mode" This is where you play side-scrolling stages based off of previous Nintendo games. In between stages, you encounter battles with Nintendo characters of that stage. The game also introduces new mini games for single players as well. Like its prequel, SSBM has a great multiplayer mode. There are even more extras to make the matches even more exciting and cool. Almost everything from Super Smash Bros. is present here and improved with better features and extras. Super Smash Bros. Melee is worthy in every Gamecube owners collection, though, like its prequel, the game will get old after a long while. I played this game for about 6 months for unlocking stuff, and the game began to feel a little bored then. Today, I only play the game every once in a while. Still though, the game offers great fun for a long period of time. Graphics: The graphics are a big improvement from the prequel, and fit very nicely for the Gamecube. Everything is now in 3D, unlike the 3D and 2D mix that Super Smash Bros. had. There are more special effects and some arenas are widely bigger and more detailed. This game definitely showcases the Gamecube's true powers. Overall, the graphics are bigger and better then the prequel. Sound: The music is a little different then the prequel, which isn't a too good of a thing. Some songs get annoying fast and some aren't as cheery like Super Smash Bros. had. The sound effects are better and more realistic. The voices from previous Nintendo games are resurrected for this game, and they sound nice. All in all, the sound is decent, but could've been better. Conclusion: The game improves everything from the prequel, but as said before, the game can get old after playing it for a long time. Regardless, this is a must own to any Gamecube owner, as this game was definitely created for a purpose. The Super Smash Bros. game has always been gold for its multiplayer modes, and it shines well here. The game was only taken up a notch in terms of fun. I certainly hope the sequel to this game will take things up another notch and try to give us more. For now, though, this will have to do.
