Super Smash Bros. Melee is the best game to play with your friends, wether you're competative or just out to kick some butt, this is the obvious choice.
The unlockables are plentyful and there are enough challenges and events to keep you playing one player mode. Not to mention, the abundant Versus modes that'll make battlin fun and unpredictable.
After unlocking all characters, items, trophies, and levels the game gets somewhat boring. Hold onto it though because you never know when you and a friend as good at the game as you might want to challenge you to a match.
After a while replay value is low. However, this game is desired for friend coop or vs. matches.
