Memories....broken?
I also remember the website that came out.
But this is highly off track, on to the review.
So Melee is definitely a step up from its predecessor in terms of speed, roster, and overall content. The adventure mode impressed me especially since it had knockbacks to older games with the Mario stage, as well as the Legend of Zelda Labyrinth stage.
The physics of the game are very strange, to say the least. If one were to use a character such as Falco, they could possibly score a KO by doing nothing more than meteoring an opponent with damage as low as 23% And for Ganondorf, even lower, assuming the opponent is not a computer.
The computer, in terms of battling, is very lacking it terms of move usage. The computer will often use standard A attacks and when edge guarding, a computer opponent will do nothing but use A attacks, when a human would probably go out and try to spike their foe. Another AI issue I've noticed had Ganondorf doing his Dark Dive off of the edge to try and edge guard, resulting in a self destruct.
The computer Luigi has also been noted to have problems, especially in recovery, as he would use his side smash to recover (which helps only horizontally) even when he is just below the stage, which I've found to be very disturbing.
The overall problem with AI is that over time, the AI may become stale and strategies to defeat them become nothing more than dodge left, attack right and spam smash since I can do that sometimes since more likely than not, they will run into it. Though the AI is very excelent at grabbing and avoiding being completely meteored, as they end up breaking the fall.
I have had many issues with playing with people as some will use wave dashing, which exploits the physics and, since I play games like this for fun, ruins the fun factor.
Overall an excellent game for multiplayer, and an improvement in series, broken physics and all, I still find myself coming back to it.
