Everything you loved about the predecessor, With 10 more characters!
The 10 new characters mesh wonderfully with the already existing 25 and it makes for a much better online experience as theres much more of a variety in who you're up against. Rather than seeing Ken, Ryu or Akuma every few matches, you'll see a great mix of all of them. This is also thanks to the re-balancing of the pre-existing roster, no one has a strict advantage over anyone else.
The return of Bonus stages also is a refreshing feature and acts as a change of pace as far as the same old grind goes. Theres two bonus stages that make an appearance; The Car and Barrels. Just as it was in the glory days of Super Street Fighter 2, it is today, a great and fun experience to smash up a car and destroy barrels hurdling down at you. It would have been nice to have seen the bricks return as well as maybe a new bonus stage, but hey, beggars cant be choosers. The bonus stages have a few characteristics that factor into your barrage of destruction including the damage of your attacks, the amount of time it took to complete and whether or not you completed it "Perfectly" or not.
The new game modes include Endless Battle, Team Battle, Replay Channel, and Tournament mode.
Endless battle puts you in a situation of a never ending circle that simulates the old local style of "winner goes on" and anyone in the lobby can watch the matches of the other players while they wait for their turn to play. This turned out great and was an excellent new mode added to the online play.
Team battle puts you in a situation similar to a regular match except you have a team mate. If you win you go on to fight the opposing teams second player, but if you lose you pass the baton to your own team mate. This mode also works well in the same pace changing attitude that was had with the addition of bonus stages.
The replay channel lets you watch replays of you or other players, simple enough. This is especially great if you'd like to re watch your matches to see what you did wrong or what you could do differently. Alternatively its great just to show your friends your "good fights" or just to watch other players to learn a thing or two about your favorite character.
Finally theres tournament mode, where simply put, you fight in a tournament. Its fairly self explanatory. This mode works well, but if the host disconnects which has become quite popular, your tournament disbands. This could happen at any given moment and has been known to.
One problem to be noted is that any cut-scenes you unlock through Arcade mode with any of the various 35 characters cant be viewed again in any sort of gallery, the only way to view it is to play it. a small quip but it was a bit of an upset.
Overall Super Street Fighter 4 is an incredible succeeder to the previous Street Fighter 4 and a must have for any Street fighter or fighting game fan alike.
