You know what's sad? This is better than most Superman games. You know what's sadder? This is barely a Superman game.

I think I speak for everyone when I say that the gaming industry hasn't been kind to the man of steel, with almost every game turning out to be a failure like Superman 64. However, this game is actually not all that bad surprisingly, but why is this considered a Superman game?

For the gameplay, you must solve a series of Sudoku-styled puzzles, only instead of numbers, you get a bunch of symbols representing diamonds, squares, and other shapes. Overall, it's not a bad little puzzle game, although the shapes can make it confusing. In the main game, you must solve a number of these puzzles in each stage in the same time limit. Meaning you only have a total of 10 or 15 minutes to complete every one in the stage before moving on to the next. If you take too much time on one puzzle, you can go back, take it again and you can get some time back at least but other times on the tougher puzzles, it can get tedious even though you get more time.

You can use Superman's powers to help you cheat by telling you where the pieces go or by changing the selected pieces altogether til you get the ones you need. You can't do it very often because you have ab energy bar that can only be filled by filling in the correct pieces. Also, be careful not to miss because that only adds another 30 seconds to your time.

The only thing Superman related in this entire game are the "epic battles" (yes, they're really called that). These action stages pop up every now and then, at least once per level, where you take control of Superman. You only have two attacks, "A" for your heat vision and "B" for your ice breath. The enemies in the stage can only be killed by one or the other, blue enemies can only be killed by heat vision and red enemies can only be killed with ice breath. Your goal in this stage is to kill as many enemies as possible and pick up the blue or red crystals that they drop, in which the beginning of every stage tells you how many of each you'll need to complete the mission. Not bad, but kind of repetitive at time.

This game doesn't have too much to do with Superman other than the "epic battles" but in conclusion, it's an ok game. There isn't much replay value to it but it's a decent time waster. I'd recommend it if you find it in the bargain bin.
