A good RPG with a repetitive button-mashing combat system!
The combat system is a 2D "button mashing" affair that resembles a fighting game. It's cool but it will get repetitive since most of the combat is fairly easy except in a few spots (toward the end). This game calls magic "Eres" and it looks really good when you pull them off, especially when multiple party members launches them at the same time. You have a baking system which you hunt down recipe and ingredients. I wish the way you travel on the world map was better, you can rotate and can't tilt the view so you are very limited of what you can see.. sometimes you will run in circles before finding the correct path to a certain locations. Also, the random battles can get annoying and the dungeons have a lot of branching paths that are dead ends (at least they chests). There's something called chaos zone which protects certain chests... if you go into them you will face enemies that are a lot tougher than normal ones.
The graphics are really excellent and the style used in the game is pretty slick. The layout of the dungeons are ridiculously linear, but at least, they almost all look really good. The backgrounds during the fights also looks really good. Enemies and characters are somewhat deformed but the animation more than makes up for the lack of detail.
The music is good but it's not as memorable as other RPGs. The sound effects and voice-overs are excellent.. even with some of the cheesy dialogue. Everyone is very vocal during the fights which adds intensity.
The story starts out slow but in the end it's a memorable one. The main quest took me around 25 hrs to complete but afterwards you have all sorts of character quests which could take as much time. Lots of replay value if you wish to do everything.
To finish, I'm glad i played the game and i recommend it to a least give it a try.
