This TMNT game can be summed up in one word, "unnatural".
The graphics are dark and gritty. They look good up to the point were you see puddles on the ground and they appear to be mirrors. That really is my only grip about that. They animations are smooth and look every cool. Sliding over the back of your turtle brothers and then slicing and dicing The Foot looks good.
There are a lot of bells and whistles to play around with. A solid upgrade system and a good training system to help you figure out the controls.
But that is the problem, the controls. They are so unnatural. It starts out with the normal, just bash X and Y to make minced meat out of your foes. Then special moves come into play. An example would be "Hold the R trigger and swing the R stick around? Half the time i just swung around my camera (which the R stick controls). I ended up just beating X and Y the entire time and that does work.
Now we go to blocking and how frustrating that is as well. Half the time it was unresponsive and I got knocked around a lot while hitting the B button to block.
As a TMNT fan there is a lot to like. The conversations and the taunts have the personalities of the turtles down. The comics in between battles are great and you get the feeling that the developer really enjoyed the subject matter that the game was based on. They unfortunately did not execute it very well.
Online co-op is great in this game. you can get 4 players rocking their shells off. Offline, different story. I was hoping to play the game with my kids but it only limited it to 2 players offline in the main game. (there is a little arcade game you can play 4 players offline) :-( that is sad considering the game was really made for multiplayer.
Overall it's a solid game if you are a fan of the turtles and are willing to look past the bad controls.
If not then I would pass for something that has a better controls.
