THIS is how TMNT should be.

I got this game a long, long, long time ago. I traded it in a few years back because I didnt have a working Genesis. I think I made a mistake trading it in.

Its the Ninja Turtles and theyre fighting. What more could you ask for? No, April hasnt been kidnapped (amazingly) and the city isnt in peril. This time its the universe. This time Krang (not Shredder) is at the heart of it. Krang has cloned the Turtles and made them evil, but somehow far off worlds are involved. I guess Krang put the clones there to rule over the worlds. Anyways, you take control as one of the 4 turtles, or April, or Rayman, or Sisyphus and fight the evil clones of themselves to save the universe. Pretty cheesy, but when your 9 years old, have a Genesis and are a Turtles fan, its pretty fun.
The arcade style fighting wasnt that good though. The clones were always more powerful and faster. No matter what you did they always hit you, and no matter how many buttons you pushed, you couldnt pull off any of the special moves. And if you did, the clones would just block it. This game was hard as hell, but fun. I guess thats what people have lost sight of in games today, theyre no longer challenging.

The graphics are what youd expect from the Genesis. Reds, greens, blues, purples. Only thing was that each of the Turtles are supposed to be different colors, but in this game theyre not. The action was well animated and the levels were never boring to look at. Some of the levels were tiered, this wasnt something we saw in Mortal Kombat 2, now was it?

The sound was sometimes annoying. Especially when one of the clone Turtles decided it wanted to go on a repetitive move streak. The ambient techno-sounding BGM was tailored to each level. The weapon attack sounds were the same for all characters.

This game had its moments of addictiveness. But most of the time it just sat around and gathered dust. But those moments when me and my brother decided to play against each other were better than the arcade version.

I love the old-school Turtles, the new-school, not so much. But if they ever decided to remake this game, I know Id buy it.
