A TMNT fighting game? Finally!

User Rating: 8.5 | Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Warriors SNES
Being a lifelong fan of both Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Street Fighter, this game fit me like a glove. However, if you happen to be one of the strange and few who have never heard of one or the other of the abovementioned titles, this game will be a thrill anyways, capturing the best qualities of both.

As a kid I was always more than happy grabbing my favorite turtle Donatello, or any of his other three pals, and sending them out on a crazy adventure filled with foot-soldier pummelling, underwater bomb-defusing, and time-travel. Those games were always fun and they've earned every ounce of praise they've ever gotten. But darn-it, sometimes I wanted to do some SERIOUS butt-kicking. I was always a die-hard fan of Street Fighter and I was just foaming at the mouth at the idea of being able to pin my half-shelled-heroes against eachother just like I would Ryu and Ken. My dream came true in the early nineties. Choose your favorite Ninja Turtle or other TMNT character and get down to some serious shell-shocking. This game is a head-to-head brawler at a basic but really entertaining level. It doesn't have the seisure-enducing flash of a Guilty Gear game, nor is it as in-depth as a Tekken or DOA; but it does have everything that made Street Fighter popular and long-lasting: simple, even gameplay. The artwork is great and far more mature than previous TMNT games and will appeal to an older crowd; the music is up-beat and not as tacky as, say, Marvel vs Capcom 2; and the fighters are varied and nostalgic, allowing you to play as any of the characters you ever wanted to see duke it out (however, surprisingly, Beebop and Rocksteady are absent from this game).

It's a low-down shame that I don't still have my SNES, and I'm not shy in the least to say that if I had this game in my living room right now I'd wear those four controller buttons down to the nubs getting reaquainted with this game. If you've got this game tucked away in a box somewhere: treasure it...well, actually, you should play it, because it rocks.
