This game is a good game within the series, but is by no means outstanding. There are several new characters, but only two of which make any significant difference, Steve Fox a boxer and Craig Marduk a Vale Tudo fighter. Following the other PS2 Tekken game, Tekken Tag, this game does seem considerably weaker from the gameplay point of view, with a significantly smaller number of characters and no real new mini/additional games such as Tekken ball or bowling. The characters within this game can also be seen as unnecessary additions as they are repetitions of preivious characters e.g. Christie being Eddy; Violet, Lee (an unlockable character in Tekken 2),;Combot being Mokujin, both of whom imitate other characters; and Jin Kazama being a hybrid of Kazuya Mishima and Jun Kazama. However, all of these characters were used as somewhat plot devices, with Tekken 4, as with all the others in the series, having a good story mode, but by no means being outstanding. There is a good multiplayer option, as with other Tekken games, but does nothing much to raise the bar.I would rate this game as midling in the series, not doing much to raise itself above others in the series other than obviious graphic improvements, yet is still a necessity for any Tekken fan, or even fan of a beat-em-up genre.
