Compared to most everybody else, I'm far from a Tekken god. More like someone who still has much to learn. However, that doesn't mean I'm not enjoying Tekken 6. It's one of the finest fighting games you'll play this year.

Rounding out the roster are a whopping 40 characters. That's a lot of fighters to experiment with if you're new to the series, but for veterans, it's like a homecoming. Each character plays almost precisely like you remember, and the new additions are fun to use, too. Zafina's my favorite, and Bob is surprisingly fast for his body mass. Graphically, the game looks great, but it could have been pushed a little further, and some of the character models have a strange gleamy texture that's kind of distracting. To its credit, high-definition televisions stand to benefit the most out of Tekken 6's visual presentation.

The home conversion of Tekken 6 expands the arcade experience with a variety of gameplay options, including the Scenario Mode--which is basically like an adventure mode where you can control any of the 40 Tekken characters and take part in an elaborate story involving the Mishima-Zaibatsu, G Corporation, a dysfunctional family unit and a frightening monster named Azazel (who you fight in Arcade mode). You can customize the costumes of individual characters with items and money you find in Scenario Mode as well as purchasing stuff from the main menu. Item drops in Scenario mode add enormously to the replay value because you'll want to go back and repeat missions using different characters to nab free outfits should you be lucky. My only real complaint with Tekken 6 has to be the loading times. In some cases, it's forgivable--but in others, they're noticeable enough to be an annoyance. A patch has yet to be released to correct the problem.

Apart from some of these minor grievances, Tekken 6 is a blast to play for fans of the series and fighting game fans in general, and it's certainly worth your time to check it out.
