User Rating: 8.5 | TerRover PS3
In TerRover you drive this little tank the likes of the ones used in mars exploration through five thematic planets in 2D platforming puzzle-like fashion.

It's in its gameplay and controls where this game shines. The first impression you get is that the rover is too floaty and flips, jumps and turns over constantly. The key to controlling it correctly is finesse and subtle squeezes of the accelerator and very gentle tilts of the left stick to shift the weight of the rover left and right, it's kinda like driving a 4wd in difficult terrain, you have to keep the vehicle balanced and know when to gently push the accelerator so that the wheels make good contact with the terrain and they don't slip from too much torque. Sometimes you'll find yourself going through confined spaces and narrow tunnels which require you to to flip and shift direction and shape of the vehicle to pass through, hence the puzzle feel...

The objective is to reach the end of each stage and collect bolts and nuts for score, do it fast and without dying... Nuts are also used to buy different chassis upgrades that equip the tank with magnets, grappling hooks and weapons, etc. Each chassis also has different weight and the wheels are also different which change the behavior and traction of the vehicle considerably and make the choice of chassis an important part of solving some of the puzzles.

The game is HARD, and you'll die many times a la Demon's Souls (fortunately you don't have to start at the beginning like that hellish... thing, got the platinum so i know what i'm talking about) which i feel gives it a much welcome Old School flavor and a great sense of reward when you accomplish something.

graphics are your typical flash game affair, a bit on the minimalist side, it's very colorful and the animation is fluid. Full HD 1080.

sound effects are nothing to write home about but they do the job and aren't annoying or anything, the music is spacy electronica (think paper mario thousand year door's space chapter) i liked it but YMMV, odd that's turned way too low in the standard settings.

I can't believe the scores this game's got all over the community... it's like they never gave the game a chance and when they pushed the control stick and saw the rover flip the first times decided it was broken... a sad day for hardcore, old school gaming.

There's a demo in the PSN store, you should definitely try it... who knows... you may like it.
