Once Again Another Unappreciated Accolade Title

User Rating: 9.4 | Test Drive: Off-Road 2 PS
Test Drive Off-Road is a sequel to Test Drive Off-Road in 1997, which needed several improvements, it had only 4 cars to select and a wide array of courses, and okay graphics. This game improves on the theme of off-road racing. This came out in 1998, when Test Drive 5 was out, which is my favorite racing game ever, and this title is a favorite I grew up with, and I still enjoy it.

There are some good things in it, nice well-designed courses with their own set of action and off-roading stunts set up. Morocco is sandy and long, and challenging, Hawaii is a bit less challenging, and has a lot of water and sand. Mojave has some insane jumps, lots of desert sand, and even train tracks. Santa Cruz is a long, muddy wilderness ride. Switzerland is snowy and well done, and Wales is filled with overcast weather and rain, and well-done castles and kingdoms, it's basically the best course in the game. You can do these in reverse as well.

And quite a good car selection, the available cars are pretty good, I am disappointed with the Hummer's stats, usually Hummers are fast powerful off-road vehicles, in the game, it is slow. The Ram is much better, but not perfect. The best available car is the Chenowth DR2, it's cool-looking and very fast. Other default cars are the Ford F-150, Ford Explorer, Land Rover Defender 90 and the Jeep Cheeroke and Jeep Wrangler.

The locked cars are faster and more fun, you have a better selection. The Hummer Turbo Diesel is fast and furious compared to the regular Hummer. The Ram V-10 resembles a blue/white Dodge Viper. The Ford F-150 V8 is a hot rod truck, with a nice flame job and blower. The Chenowth DR2 upgrade looks like the regular one, just painted a different color, and a lot faster too. The Explorer V8 is a faster Explorer that resembles a law enforcement van, just like the Jeep Grand Cheeroke, which is an awesome ride too. The Defender 90 Upgrade has a skull and flames, and is faster as well, along with the Wrangler Sport. The Chenowth Fast Attack Vehicle (or Desert Patrol Vehicle) is a serious machine indeed, and the Dodge T-Rex (I never seen one in reality) is a six-wheel drive Ram, the Range Rover is blazing fast, and reaches speeds that no other car in the game may be able to reach. There is also a school bus, a Black Widow truck, and an ice cream truck.

With this good selection of courses and cars, its kind of fun. Career mode is okay as well. Overall, it's worth a shot. A pretty good soundtrack as well, and that announcer who yells "Off road!" or "Whoa!" when you do an intense jump.
