This game is digital crack that, IMO, surpasses the original Tetris on many levels.
This games graphics are pretty good for when the game came out, and the effects of the bricks breaking, the glowing core, and the explosions from your special power-ups all look great. Admittedly, it is rather simplistic, but everything that IS there looks top notch. I give the graphics an 8/10.
The sound is great quality for N64, and I love all the noises made from the blocks... If only the sound track was so bad. To put it simply, it's techno. Really in-your-face techno. You'll either love or hate the soundtrack, pending on whether you like techno or not. As much as I hated the music, the rest of the sound redeemed it to acceptable. I give the sound a 6/10.
Here we go, the meat of any good puzzled game - the gameplay. It's hard to say, but this could very well be my favorite puzzle gameplay experience. This game is crack, but you don't have to keep buying it, and it won't kill you! Sounds great, huh? Basically, you move around a sphere lifting pieces off it, and dropping it on matching pieces to destroy it and any of the same-type pieces around the piece dropped on. There's alot more to it, like power-up meters, character stats, chains and combos, and an abundance of awesome modes in both single and multiplayer. This game is fast, ruthless, and will keep you busy for a long time with all it has to offer. I give the gameplay a 9/10.
It may be an acquired taste, but that's for just about any puzzle game. If you appreciate creativity in games, and like puzzle games, this game is worth you cash.
