A hard-as-nails but still quite a satisfying experience.

Not wanting to be a wimp, and neither feeling cocky, I chose Normal difficulty. In the end, it's still f***ing hard, even at the first few stages. What the f***? Don't get me wrong, I love the Parasite Eve series, but a decade later, I never realised the developers chose to be a**holes. The whole game is a shooter hellhole.

Void of any puzzles or exploration features, The 3rd Birthday is a dedicated shooter game that focuses on making life difficult for the player. But there are loads of great-looking cinematics as well as in-game vids with a twisted story that revolves around a screwed timeline. Talking about twisted, the monsters are called Twisted, and they look the part, which makes killing them an unsightly and morbid experience. For fans, no mention of mitochondria here.

Of course, the best parts of the game is Aya Brea herself, with costume unlockables and the infamous shower scene, which requires a perverted amount of dedication to unlock. Unless the main protagonist is your motivation to play the game, or you're a glutton for punishment, look elsewhere perhaps.
