Holy Crap Batman, the hardest friggin' RPG ever!
User Rating: 8.9 | The 7th Saga SNES
Yes, this game is quite possibly the hardest RPG ever to grace the SNES and quite possibly any other console. The game though, beyond its extreme level of difficulty is quite inspired. The game departs from traditional RPG's in that your party will consist of just your lonesome, and later, one of the other members vying for control of the 'Runes' may join you in your quest. There are only 7 pre-made characters (which is a major drawback to the game) to choose from. Their abilities are mostly obvious from looking at them, and seeing their initial stats. Wizards, Healers, Knights, and even a giant Robot are available. The environments are awful, and the dialogue sucks, and while it may seem that I'm being totally critical of this game, just play it and you'll see that beyond its obvious shortcomings you'll find a fine RPG experience. The boss battles against the other adventurers and other bosses are HARD AS CRAP. Using a great deal of strategy is necessary to win. The battle system, unlike the overworld map and town view, is very well done. The battles are great, and the monsters are pretty well animated. The music is decent, and the sound effects can be lacking at time. The story is pretty weak, but most places have side quests (which really aren't optional) to perform to lengthen the quest. The game really shines when it comes to the duels with the other characters and the difficulty of the game makes this Enix title worth the investment. Another classic game that any serious collector should have on his shelf.
