Although it is quite short. This is a game not to be missed.

User Rating: 9.3 | The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay XBOX
Recently we have seen the first person shooter genre really slow down. New things in its genre are hard to find. Most of it is the same old cup of tea. "shoot the oil. Blow up the ship. Run." Then there are games that bring wonderful ideas but do not fully utilize them as they should. Riddick has changed the entire genre. Not only the movie franchise half of it, but the FPS and stealth half.

So you are Riddick. One bad mother Furion. You got taken to prison cause Johns busted you. You are now headed off to the biggest and roughest slam in the galaxy. You have two choices. Break out. Or stay and make everyone your prison...well...you get the picture. You are gonna bust out.

The gameplay that it presents is the first person prespective. But the things you can do is a bit more then just, shoot, duck, and jump. You can roll, fist fight, hang from the ceiling, see in the dark, and most importently snap necks like you snap glows sticks. The real things that sets this game apart from so many other fps's. Is the stealth mechanics. It is simple and effective. And it isn't something you will only use once or twice. It will actually be your most powerful tool. The entire mechanic is you standing in the darkness. When you are undetectable by your prey. Your screen will turn a hue of blue indicating that you are hidden well, just like that sandwhich you lost 4 months ago. There is also the amazingly well done hand to hand combat which is easy and is probably more fun then playing with guns. Breakdown tried it. And Riddick perfected it.

The graphics are another high point. The grime on the wall almost seems like you could touch it. And every single prisoner is diffrent in some way. All with unique names and thoughts on the prision. The scenery doesn't change much. Except when you are sent to another part of the prision. It still looks so beautiful. There are very few problems with some of the graphics. And they are all so minor. That for the most part, they are barely noticeable.

The sound is great when you hear the bullets whiz from your gun into your target. And the music is fitting. As it is the only real song on there. Though you hear it only when something is happening. You will be hearing it just enough where it seems right. But not enough to get reptative.

Though the game is quit short. Only taking 6 or so hours to complete. It has a good deal of replayability. Due to it just being plain fun.
Take a look around at any game store and ask them for a copy of this wonderful shooter.
