Finally something ambitious, Bizzare Creations latest release. An in depth review of The Club.
The main aim of the game is basically this:
You play as one of 8 Characters forced into a secret organisation called "The Club", where you must compete against other enemies to get the highest score via Pray 'n' Spraying and killing enemies. Sounds odd, but its definately a good concept that really had alot of potential. Offline, the game has 8 (rather short) Tournaments and 2-4 player offline splitscreen. For a full priced game perspective, (unless you play online) , this isnt great value.
Online is actually farely fun, but only if you can find a match. There really arent many people playing this game online, which is also a shame. There are a considerate amount of weapons ranging from Assault Rifles, Heavy Weapons and Light Weapons and there is 10 in total. Back to the characters, their stories arent really developed. At all. The only background you get about them is basically a paragraph of text and a pointless introduction video that basically doesnt tell the viewer anything.
The sound effects are pretty much average, with the main sound effects being the ticking of the combo timer and gunshots. The graphics however, are quite bland and rather dull. Character models are fine and the framerate run quite smoothly with no really noticable hiccups, however the arena's are bland and boring. Ofcourse the main thing that matters in The Club is the gameplay.
The Club is incredibally fun and very addictive. The game has decent replay value with harder difficulty for achievmants and Offline splitscreen. And with the price being so low, this is definately a good buy. I know that the gameplay is supposed to be run and gun, but a cover system would have been nice. Some game modes involve you having to stay in one area and pick off anemies and this could have really used a cover system. But one of the things I love about The Club and Bizzarre Creations is that they havent stooped so low as to resort to Acheivmant Syndrome, and you actually have to work to get the achievments which demands some respect for such a low budget and unpopular game.
The Club is a really fun game. It gives a great idea and some entertainment, even if there is 1 or 2 problems that could have been avoided.
