May not be great as the original, the sequel has its good moments even that it is a short game indeed. #

User Rating: 7.5 | The Darkness II PS3
I was a fan of the first Darkness which was released back in 2007, never really heard much about a sequel since last year and plus it had been delayed quite a few times back in 2011.

Main story takes place 2 years after the events where Jackie Estacado lost his friend Jenny from being shot and getting revenge on his Uncle and the Mafia. Jackie is now the Don of his own Mafia hasn't been using the darkness since, but suddenly an organisation wants Jackie's dark powers, Jackie's Darkness breaks out and your pretty much using your darkness to find out the answers Jackie is looking for. If you didn't play through the first Darkness you can see the story of what happened before starting a new game.

Gameplay: Follows the same gameplay mechanics for those who did play the first Darkness but has a few new changes to the game. You still get to duel-wield two guns and carrying a secondary weapon such as a rifle or shotgun, you can use your Darkness to eat people's hearts to restore health if you're low. Lights can make you weak and won't be able to use Darkness unless you shoot the lights if your nearby them or destroying a generator close by.

You gain points for killing enemies at any ways you like, you gain points which you can use to buy talents and abilities which can be useful to use such as the Black-Hole which can suck up enemies and Gunner-point where you can fire bullets through walls and do some more damage to enemies.

By holding the L2 button you can grab and throw things at enemies such as poles, saws and boxes; you can also grab enemies and you've got a choice on where ever you want them slaughtered to gain health, ammo or a recharge on your darkness. The R2 button is used to slash enemies and smash stuff in front of you, Darkling is your sidekick throughout the main story who'll help you fight your way through enemies and see through his own eyes through certain levels which are stealth type by sneaking up behind enemies and reaching places Jackie can't get to.

Graphics and Sound: The Darkness 2 graphics are the biggest change to the game unlike the first game looked more polished, the graphics in this one feels more of comic book styled look which actually suits the game well since the series is based the comic book series. It does use the same character models throughout the whole game and seeing the same repeated enemies and moves can be a little repetitive.

There's an awful lot of blood, gore and violence which is another great thing that gamers and fans will enjoy seeing in The Darkness 2, seeing enemies get ripped and opened apart by your own is really fun to watch. It would have been nice to see more gruesome attacks and slaughtering instead of seeing the same ones over and over again later on in the game.

For those who did play the first Darkness you'll know that Kirk Acevedo did the voicing for Jackie; however who is now being replaced with Brian Bloom. It is a shame that fans don't get to hear Kirk Acevedo's voice through The Darkness 2 but however the game still does a great job on voice acting, plus the soundtrack is well done and sells well on its story.

Overall: When I say short, I mean it is short you can actually beat through the game in 5 hours but you can transfer all of your abilities and powers to New Game+. There is online multiplayer where you can play up to 2-4 players through co-op missions and a campaign quest, but however the campaign isn't too hard and you can pretty much beat through it on your own.

Getting 100% on trophies isn't too hard to obtain and requiring you to play through the main story at least twice which shouldn't be too long for you to achieve since that it is a short game. Fans of the series will enjoy the sequel on its story and ripping enemies apart. During loading times you can listen to one of Jackie's past memories about him and Jenny, with the game being short it's worth the purchase if you're into First-person Shooters or wanting to see lots of blood on your screen.
