Despite a variety of flaws it still proves to be one of the deepest rpgs in years.

User Rating: 8.2 | The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind XBOX
Morrowind was the first rpg on the xbox and thus had to stand out. It certainly does but many players find it stands out for all of the wrong reasons.

The absoloute best thing about Morrowind is the huge, i repeat huge, land. This thing is massive and would probably take you two or three hours to walk across the island. This allows for many possibilites to explore hundreds of dungeouns finding the coolest items. It also has a somewhat unique leveling system. Instead of killing things and picking traits to improve. You must use your skills in order to advance them. Thus killing things with your sword over and over will cause your skill to rise. There is also a nearly unlimited amount of things to do ranging from the main quest, to the house quests, to the guild quests, to hundreds of smaller side quests. This allows you to always have something to do.

Morrowind's strengths lead to a variety of problems. One of the main problems is that with such a huge world players may find themselves literally lost, and you may not be able to find what your looking for. Another problem is that because there is so much freedom a person may find that there is no sense of direction and get easily board with the game. But, my biggest problem with the game is the combat. It takes place in first person but instead of you using your skill like in an fps. The game will make a dice roll in the background. This may result in some frustrating moments as you could be sure your hitting an enemy but your just waisting your energy. Although a game should shouldn't be based on it's graphics and that this game came out in 2002 Morrowind does feature some pretty terrible graphics. Animations often seem to be two cycles (Weapon up, weapon down). Although some of the enviroments look nice, sorta.

Despite it's flaws Morrowind can offer up an incredibly deep experience. I will extremely advise casual gamers to avoid this game at all costs, but for those of us who like are games a little long and don't care about cutting edge graphics Morrowind can provide a solid rpg experience.
