Am I the only one who didn't think this game was all that great?

To be fair, I didn't play this game until last summer, 2 1/2 years after it's release. I figured it's a single player rpg, so my experience will be the same if I buy it for $30 as if I pay $60. I wish I played it when it first came out because it's showing it's age. I played Assassin's Creed,Call of Duty 4, and Mass Effect before playing this, so the graphics just didn't seem that great. The character animations are terrible. When your player jumps, he kind of floats & seems very stiff. The combat animations are stiff and uninspired. And the combat (for an rpg) is really a pain. It's like a FPS for aiming spells or sword, and can be difficult to hit, with no auto aim or lock on. If I wanted to play an FPS, there are alot of games that do it better.
OK, all that stuff can be attributed to the game's age. So the rpg part of it should still be good, right? Not really. The main story is decent, but it doesn't really grab you and draw you in like other rpg's I have played. I'm a huge Bioware fan and I love their games. The main quest in Oblivion just doesn't measure up. It's alright, but way too short and once I'd completed it, the rest of the world seems generic and repetetive. Most rpg's have generic side quests (Mass Effect's side quests were pretty bland) but Oblivion seems to be 25% story and 75% side quests. They aren't all that great, and the game autolevels your enemies, so even if you complete them just to make your character more powerful, the enemies just level up too, so what have you gained?
Seemed like a massive time sink and I quickly lost interest after the main quest and a few downloadable quests were completed.
All in all it was a decent game, just not spectacular like everybody seems to think. Certainly not the "greatest rpg ever". Here's hoping Fallout 3 is better...
