The most immersive game i have ever played!
User Rating: 9.9 | The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion X360
Oblivion is a role playing game thats been in development for 4 and a half years. The wait for this game has been really long but it was definetly worth it! This game far exceeded my expectations! Betheseda have created a near perfect game too bad the publishers forced them to rush oblivion as it has glitches and some graphical issues but those are the only cons! The Pros easily make up for that. You start this game by choosing your race, there are quite a few races to choose from however i chose the Nord race. You start this game in a prison cell and a couple of minutes into the game the emperor arrives outside your cell with his guards and you find out some Assassins tried to Assassinate the emperor and his sons so the emperor came to his secret escape route that happens to start from your cell! The emperor frees you and you fight your way through a dungeon filled with giant rats and Goblins until you meet the emperor again. He then asks you of your birthsign and you choose one, birthsigns could really affect the way you fight and your special attacks, i chose "the serpent" which allows you to poison your enemies. Anyway when you start to get bored of the dungeon you carry on for a while and finally your outside. The moment you exit the dungeon is slightly shocking as you kind of get used to the tight walls and the dark but all of a sudden your outside into a 16 mile square map that screams "HDR lighting" with view distances of up to 2 miles, a living and breathing world with towns and cities and mountains and dungeons and flatlands e.t.c. Now the first thing that hits you in oblivion are the graphics they looks spectacular with HDR, AA, AF, really nice art design and great high-resolution textures. Basically oblivion looks simply breathtaking on my 32" HDTV and as if thats not good enough it runs at about 40-50 fps always. Now for the gameplay, its really great there are three types of combat, close combat, Range and Magic the deepest of all being magic as it has 5 diffrent sub-magics ( destruction, illusion e.t.c) each with their owns set of spells. The best things about oblivion are its depth, sheer size and free-roam. The core storyline is that 16 gates have opened up between this world and a dark fiery dimension-oblivion-inhabited by dark Dadera princes, whose sole purpose in life is removing it from others. So its up to you to venture into these foul pits, kill everything in sight and destroy the gates on your way out. You can plough through the key storyline in about 50 hours. However to do so would be missing the point because this game has an infinite world of possibilities, solving various side quests, joining and progressing through the diffrent guilds and fighting in the gladitorial arena. This game has levels for each skill rather than just a total level, i prefered that to just the total level idea, you improve your level by using that skill more often for example use a sword for a long time and your "blade" level will increase or use an mace for a long time and your "blunt" level will increase, run for a long time and your "agility" will increase or do alot of alchemy and your "alchemy" level will inrease e.t.c so basically you get better at those skills. The A.i in this game is quite good for e.g your enemies will block your attacks and counter, fire at you with ranged weapons if you are far away e.t.c the civilian A.I is also good they do their jobs, eat, sleep, wake up, gossip e.t.c but they dont eactly act realistically sometimes for e.g i saw two civilians having a conversation one said " Have you heard about the oblivion gates popping up all over the place?" the other looked at him and said " farewell" and walked away and that just made me chuckle as it was pathetic. Also Oblivion gives you tons of weapons and items e.t.c to keep you playing for even longer for e.g you could go to the forest and pick fruits, magical herbs and ingredients to mix together to make a potion and increase your alchemy spell or better than that you could just explore and go discover new dungeons, villages in the mountains, ancient temples, treasures e.t.c Basically if you have a 360 or PC you just have to buy this game (i have it on the xbox 360) forget all the rpg's you play this is the rpg to rule them all and you have never played a true rpg until you play oblivion.
