'TES IV: Oblivion' is one of the largest and most glorified western RPGs on the market.

If you haven't played any of the Elder Scrolls, or if it's your first time playing an RPG, you will have never seen anything like this before. The amount of content and value you can get out of this game is unimaginable to those who haven't truly experienced a large scale game. The world in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is one of the most detailed ever created in a video game. With Skyrim coming up incredibly soon, it may beat Oblivion by a longshot, but Oblivion is not overshadowed as it is a masterpiece on its own right. You create your own character which can be any of the races that exist in the world of Oblivion, and you can level up hundreds of skills and choose a specific type of combat you'd like to practice. The backstory, ancient history and religious mythology that exists in Oblivion is incredibly imaginative and vast, as you will experience tons of it in the game and maybe even realize Bethesda HAS successfully created an alternate medieval fantasy universe.

The good things in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion:
-One of the most detailed and imaginative games in history.
-Vast and lush environments and visuals, even for a game that was practically a next-gen console launch title still grasping the limitations of the console's hardware.
-Hundreds of NPCs with full, fantastic voice acting and personalities.
-Tons of things to do like combat, chores, side missions, saving the world, hunting, crafting, potion making, working as a thief or an assassin, etc.
-Fantastic musical score, even though some tracks are repetitive and heard far too often.
-Addictive and impressive use of first person gameplay.
-Thousands of unique items including armor, weapons and more.

The bad things in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion:
-Animations are a hit and miss, usually miss.
-Incredibly iffy presentation usually due to NPC AI and almost complete lack of cinematics besides the intro and ending.
-Not enough voice actors for the incredibly large cast. Many duplicate voices playing big groups of characters.
-Your main quest feels lonely and sometimes monotonous due to the lack of temporary companions or adventuring in a dark, bland cavern for up to an hour at a time.

Oblivion is definitely worth picking up if you have extra time on your hands and are looking for an adventure to immerse yourself into, especially if you're looking for an RPG glorified to the very last portion.
