Could have been the greatest game made to date. Instead it's just the same old reused formula.
Really it is almost the same game as oblivion just with slightly better graphics kill cams and different looking spells (Less number of spells by the way). Some would say Oblivion was great why change it that much? I say when you had the opportunity to make something truly great and you like so many others just recycled the winning formula you create stagnation.
Let me elaborate. Skyrim is a fun game it is really good. Where i believe it falls short is the immersion. Ok you're either a sandbox game or a RPG. Maybe a little of both. Skyrim is a RPG with a decent storyline. But no cut scenes. If that's not your thing, well it doesn't even have many of those epic scripted moments that push the story. Its as if they said lets create a great RPG with story and make it a sandbox. Thats a wonderful idea...except you didn't really make it a sandbox. Sandbox means you have the ability to really effect and change the environment and the community in lasting changes. A sandbox is as the name implies you mold the world as if it was your own sandbox. Yet beyond buying a few designated houses and furnishing them in a set pattern you can't really change anything. You can get a wife but all tha entails is getting a necklace and doing one favor.
Immersion is really where this game falls short. Lack of cut scenes leaves you feeling like their is too little beautifully scripted and acted story. Which would be okay in a true sandbox. But you can't really noticeably affect this world. Let's just go kill a bunch of goblins in caves for weeks and a Dragon now and then. Which to Bethesda's credit make fun enough to cover the glaring missed chances for a truly amazing experience.
