Story is the best TES so far. Technically it's a disappointment. A bad PC port of an ok console game.

I have played all the TES games, and spent a few 100 hours with every single one of them. Skyrim is, by far, the most thrilling story-wise. It's darker and feels more alive. The intro was awesome. Also it feels like they've put so much content in it. You know there's good gaming value if you spend an entire evening just trying to enter a certain guild. The characters feels very much life like, and some of them you just can't help wanting to help out or kick their ass. It's great to overhear REAL conversations.

On the downside though... which is actually a HUGE letdown. After spending some 10 hours in Skyrim - the old Oblivion actually looks and feels better.

Skyrim is a console game - period. The graphics feels dated, cheap pixely textures, plain and not very complex geomerty. Looking over the landscapes doesn't leave you with the "wow look at that" feeling that you had with Oblivion. It's grey with few details and looking from a mountain top looks more like Delta Force 4 than TES.

The interface is one of the worst ever. The mouse is awkward with bad response. The inventory has lost all it's glory (rpg fans always ove paper dolls). No shortcut keys. etc. etc. It's a mess all in all. You go into the map only when you really HAVE to, since it is so awkward to move around. Instead of the natural clicking around the interface, you find yourself going up and down menus with WASD.

Also - the AI is outdated and dumb. Nothing much has happened there over the last few years.

It is actually a bad PC port of a rather good console game.
It feels like a five year old state of the art game.
