EDITED: Great game if you can get past some of the technical problems.
After trying a few fixes, I've been able to get the game to run without the framerate issues, at least for a few hours. But man are those hours fun. I've update the score to reflect that. At the same time, I'll leave the old review below, because those problems do still persist. The difference is that I've been able to get past some of the technical problems now. The bugs are still just as apparent.
OLD REVIEW:
I've tried to enjoy this game, I really have. But my experience almost makes me cry. I don't know how the heck this game got so many perfect and near-perfect reviews. But here we go:
1. Past 20 (TWENTY) hours of gameplay, I started experiencing severe lag. A quick google search revealed that countless other people have been experiencing the same issue. This is so choppy that it's frustrating. Unplayable even.
2. The textures are absolutely horrible. Enough said.
3. Glitches, glitches, and more glitches... (these happen on a REGULAR BASIS)
i) Characters and enemies (even a dragon) getting stuck in place. Among other things, sometimes people will just keep running in place, and enemies will stand still while you attack them.
ii) Quests getting glitched due to fast-forwarding through conversations. So yes, if you can read faster than the characters talk, you still have to stand there and listen to them finish every sentence.
4. Allies/Neutrals getting in the way during a fight/duel. And behold, suddenly you have a bounty on your head and the whole town is attacking you. (Also happens quite regularly).
If you can look past the ugly textures, and unpolished combat system (mainly the issue with people getting in your way), you'll enjoy the first twenty hours or so. If you're lucky it'll be more than that. But somewhere along the line, it's very likely that the framerate will start sputtering. A little bit at first. Then it'll become more and more noticeable, until finally, like me, you'll get frustrated and stop playing.
Once again, Bethesda screwed over their PS3 fanbase. It saddens me that all that anticipation and excitement had to end this way. Hopefully they'll release a patch or something to fix their issues. But I don't think I'll keep the game long enough to care.
