Great visuals, engaging gameplay and a wide variety of weapons. Though it doesn't have the charm of Fallout 3...

User Rating: 8.5 | The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim PC
"The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is the big, bold, and beautiful sequel you hoped for and is sure to bewitch you for countless hours."

Yes, the fifth instalment in the series, Skyrim, is another enormous fantasy RPG from a developer that specialises in them, and it will suck up hundreds of hours of your time as you inspect each nook and cranny for the secrets to be found within. If you know Bethesda Softworks' previous games (Fallout 3/ Las Vegas TES: Oblivion), you'll be unsurprised that Skyrim is a land without perfection, but swarms with bugs, and frustrating technical glitches. Despite this, the game manages to enthral gamers with impressive visual design, gripping story line and engrossing gameplay.

PRESENTATION
Your surroundings may look smooth and flawless though with closer inspection it will reveal jagged edges and pixelated walls. The atmosphere returns to its darker origins, with a close resemblance to TES III: Morrowind. Most open-world games contain bugs and technical glitches, Skyrim is no exception. I have spent hours upon hours on this game and have encountered many technical issues. If you are playing on PC these flaws can be easily be overcome by using easily applicable console commands. For example: An accessible door will not open and you've tried reloading a save file. Press tilde on the keyboard and type in '' This will enable you to walk through normally solid walls/objects.
Or to avoid this you could wait until patches and texture mods get released.

GAMEPLAY/ STORY LINE
Gameplay plays a leading role in the game and doesn't fail to engross you into the game until you lose track of time. Along with the main quest there a many side quests to help you gain money (gold) in order to purchase weapons, spells and armoury. As a Role Playing Game it lives up to its high expectations superior to other games of its genre like The Witcher and Fable. It sticks to the standard formula, in many role playing games, choice makes up the game. Should I kill him or let him live? As TES games are not as choice based as Fallout 3, it still captivates your mind and feels like you are the Dragonborn . The controls take a while to grasp properly though still feel natural. Right click to attack with your right hand and left click to attack with your left hand. Like the majority of PC games, WASD are used to move your character and space is used to jump. Combat falls into 3 main categories- Archery, Swords and Magicka. From there, there is a wider variety of combat choices. As you use the weapon, the more experienced you will earn for that weapon and will inflict more damage.
Climbing mountains are frustrating so either you can obtain a Horse or glitch your way up the mountain, there may be nothing on the top of the mountains though usually there are dungeons or treasure chests. You can buy houses to store equipment and recruit followers to help you fight during quests. There are no limits to this game and options stretch on endlessly. There are infinite quests. Yes- infinite. So no one can question the replay value. Dragons pop up randomly in Skyrim which are insanely fun to battle. In Skyrim gameplay is its strong point and toggling between first person and third person view is interesting. The story line is arguably the best of the five games. A war is raging between the Stormcloaks and the Imperials and in the midst, Dragons are appearing and causing chaos in Skyrim. I won't reveal any spoiler but the plot unfolds into a great story line. I wouldn't say it has the best story line when compared to games like 'Assasins Creed', 'The Legend of Zelda' and 'To The Moon'

OVERALL
At first many people think Skyrim is yet another RPG but when played, it is revealed to be much more. Sucking up hours of your time in a single player experience it does not fail to stun. Completing quests, earning gold and killing dragons. If you are not familiar with RPG's, this would be a good place to start. While it has many technical errors and bugs, it does not ruin your experience. A game with thousands of possibilities and alternate fighting option Skyrim is probably one of the best RPG's of all time receiving a Metacritic score of 95/100
