Doesn't feel or play like it's a finished game.

User Rating: 6 | The Getaway: Black Monday PS2
For the most part The Getaway: Black Monday's graphics aren't very good. The graphics look unfinished and almost everything looks rough. There's not much detail and even less depth to almost everything. The vehicles look fairly rough but have some detail to a limited extent. This continues on to the guns which again look rough. One of the few up sides are the main characters facial expressions but even they seem a little on the rough side.

The Getaway: Black Monday's gameplay plays and feels a little on the rough side. For the most part guns look as they should but lack detail and depth. The camera has weird tendency to jam up or doesn't give players a good view of the action even though it's behind the player's character. This often leads to a few frustrating moments during gameplay. The driving aspect is nice but all of the driving missions are timed. This is a bit of a piss off because this forces players to get to a location as fast as they can and doesn't allow players to take their time to get from one location to another.

However there are some interesting features about The Getaway: Black Monday that do stand out. The first one being that there is no H.U.D. for players to see things like health, ammo and so forth. This adds to the feeling of reality and forces players to pay attention to what's going on around them at any given time. The second on is the way player heal there character. Players simply lean on something like say a wall or barrier to regenerate health. However this is a bit on the flawed side as the character models have preset areas on them where blood appears on them when they're taking damage. This takes away a bit from the overall experience but not too much. The final interesting feature is the free roam mode. In this mode players can cruise around the city and see the sights of London. However in practice this is nothing more than just the city stripped of the mission aspect.

The audio for The Getaway: Black Monday's audio is ok but not that good. The main characters voices are well done and match the theme quite well though it may be hard to understand what it is they're saying at times when it comes to things like pubs, pints and so forth. The gun sound effects are a letdown because they don't quite sound as they should. Furthermore the music seems quite repetitive and plays a lot of the same music over and over again.

Overall The Getaway: Black Monday is a game that looks and feels like it was released before it was finished. As a result this game is a letdown that players may want to rent before they buy it.
