One of the worst examples of a "me too" title ever created.
User Rating: 2.8 | The Getaway PS2
Slap a catchy title, a mood that brings to mind the superior film "Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels" (complete with the spotty language), some pretentious gameplay features, and some people will, perhaps, be fooled into thinking this game is worth the energy they'd spend playing it or any attention at all, for that matter. I, for one, am not totally fooled - This game, The Getaway is a total waste of time, and a prime example of a game attempting to deviate so far from the game it rips off that it fails miserably in every area it touches. From the tedious driving levels to the completely baffling on-foot shooting levels, the stealh gameplay (not taken from GTA, but Metal Gear Soild, as is the cinematic-style presentation), and all else...every single thing this game lifts from superior games, it bungles in the most fantasical way possible. Dog gone it, this game even bungles GTA's charming little glitches, for goodness sake. As if one actually cared to play through the entire game, the least the producers of this tripe could've done was make the presentation impeccable - hell no, the game plays like it's on crack, disregarding buttons presses, switching the direction your character is running, mid-run, even...this does every single thing it attempts, gameplay-wise, W-R-O-N-G. If there is anything good to say about this game, it's that the overall soundtrack (including voices, music, environmental effects) is pretty good, save for music tracks cutting off in odd ways. Also, the graphics (not the actual environments, mind you) are fairly detailed and had the possibility to shine, if the game didn't play so GD awful. Don't even consider this game worth playing, much less owning to add to a collection. It's an awful, half-finished product that I cannot believe is getting a sequel sometime in 2005. This game is unbelievably unplayable. Get away from this game, is more like it. Ooooh, it makes me so angry how awful this game is... Ugghh!!!
