One of the better GTA clones out there today!

User Rating: 8.5 | The Godfather PS2
When a game is produced that is based around a movie it usually goes horribly wrong but EA have done an outstanding job of replicating events from the Godfather film

The Godfather videogame starts with you customizing the way your character looks, you then proceed to some brief and straight forward tutorial missions to run you thought the basics of fighting, shooting and taking over shops and rackets. The story mode itself maybe short as it consists of only 25 missions but it does take you through some of the more memorable scenes from the film its self. The in game cut scenes also help to deliver the story as EA have taken onboard the actors of the Godfather film to use for there voice for scripting in the game. When you complete the main story missions it just doesn’t stop there. You now have the task of clearing up the remaining shops, rackets and warehouses to take over the map on your way to becoming the don of New York! This is by no means a walk in the park!

This now brings me to the cars used to get about New York City and whether you like it or not you will find yourself doing a lot of driving to get from point A to B and the cars used seemingly all handle the same and a lack of variety in the cars to drive spoils the gaming experience slightly. The same could be said about the shops, rackets and warehouses as well as it soon becomes apparent that EA has used the stock interiors for practically every business in the game. The AI for the most part stand up pretty well, taking cover when they can but New York’s finest aren’t all that fine and don’t provide much of challenge even when robbing the local banks. Graphically The Godfather's also one of the better-looking games of its type regardless of the system you are playing it on. The explosion and fire effects are a work off art to start with and the death animations have been well designed. But weather or not you are a fan of the film shouldn’t really matter as EA has provided a very enjoyable game overall and is a must for any GTA or Getaway fans. It looks amazing on the PS2 and Xbox but I’m sure it looks even better on an Xbox360 with a HDTV setup.
