The famous 'Super Mario brothers' (NES) had their counterparts on the C64 with 'The Giana Sisters'. Instead of Mario and Luigi, where Mario is the main character, it was Giana and Maria, with Giana as main character.

Almost as soon as this game was released Nintendo forced the game being taken out of sales, because of it's similarity with 'Super Mario Brothers'. Thanks to illegal copying the game got it's huge popularity amongst the C64 owners.

The game-play of 'The Giana Sisters' is therefore exactly the same as 'Super Mario Brothers' , even some of the levels had the exact same layout. Where Mario collected coins, Giana collects diamonds. To get stronger and bigger Giana had to collect a white-red coloured ball by jumping with her head against the bottom of a block. This would give her a punk haircut too.
And further? Well you probably know the drill: Running and jumping through a 2D scrolling world.

What a great game this was! With an also excellent soundtrack.
