In the Old West of the 17 and 1800s, the lands were filled with vast deserts and wildlife. More notably, the Old West was filled with deceit, betrayal, and sins of the flesh. But hey, we can also look at a harsh way of life in a comical and toned down viewpoint with The Gunstringer, and shooter tailor-made to Microsofts motion-controlled accessory, the Kinect. The Gunstringer can make anyone of all ages experience laughs throughout the game's plot, and to make matters even better, the game itself is a blast to play, and even challenging at times.

In The Gunstringer, you play as a "lively", yet very dead outlaw in what is portrayed as a puppet show at a cabaret club. There is even a real, live audience played by the developers themselves, and the slight cuts to the crowd that you will see will always make you chuckle, and sometimes even burst out laughing. The story of the game is simple to follow; the reason you are dead is because of your band of outlaws that you once rode with killed you, and you are out for revenge on each member of the gang. They are a colorful cast, even though they don't say a word throughout the story. Each level and each of the game's acts are all hilarious to play, whether you are alone or with a friend.

The game itself is not very difficult to play as far as the movements you make to control The Gunstringer. The moves him for you, and it is up to you to steer him left-to-right, as well as allowing him to jump over chasms and ledges with your left hand. Aiming your weapon is as simple as moving your right hand, and pulling your hand back much in the way the recoil of the real weapon would if you hand one in your hand. This game doesn't try to be serious in any way, which is precisely why it succeeds in a lot of areas. I felt like I was watching a show because I was enjoying myself so much. Though I will throw in a "Kinect Healthy-Use Warning" for everyone out there, and I am sure this is a no-brainer, but make sure you do take a couple of minutes at least after every couple of levels or so to rest your arms. It will definitely help your performance in the long run.

The Gunstringer is a tremendous Kinect game, and one that I recommend to every Kinect owner. It is an enjoyable adventure that has a great amount of replay value as well. There are not many faults to this game other than the occasional accidental jump that the sensor detects, but other than that, this game is a spectacle, and the developers over at Twisted Pixel Games should be proud of their work.
