splatter-tastic fun explodes onto the wii
What house of the dead overkill does is it effectively puts you into a exploitation/b-movie as one secret agent named G.
its G`s first job and you get to run around various locations shooting lots of mutants, these locations are very loosely linked together by a plot about avenging family members that leads you into paedohilia and incest.
You see.....B-movie territory if you could put it anywhere
So then how does it play?
Very well, the graphics are slick and detailed and the games moves at a hell of a pace, there is very rarely a section where you can relax as wave after wave of mutants relentlessly come for your throat.
The music adds to the atmosphere of demented mayhem awaiting you around every corner.
The learning curve is great as the pace of the mutants and their numbers grow at a steady rate so you feel paniced and nervous but never completely overwhelmed.
But where the game can be praised for its gentle learning curve it can aso be criticised for being too easy and maybe a little too small,as you can play through the game on the standard mode|(with unlimited continues) in about 3 hours. Once that is completed you unlock the harder directors cut mode where the mutant population has grown and you have a limited number of continues, but even then you can still walk through the game in around 3 to 3 and a half hours.
The limitation of this on rails shooter is plain for all to see and it the same thing that willl plague all games of this ilk, every thing is always going to be in the same place at the same time every time which does make the experience a little repetitive, but with the amount of unlockables available and the high score challenges that are presented to you it does make going back through the game very attractive.
And finally it`s nice to see a firmly adult game on the WII,after many childish releases it serves as a breath of fresh(?) air dealt out in a flurry of splatter soaked and over the top(in every sense) gun slinging action
