A totally different game, compared to the previous HOTDs, in a good way.
User Rating: 9.5 | The House of the Dead: Overkill WII
Before I shelled out the $50, I knew that I was going to be playing a totally different House of the Dead. I didn't know whether it would be a good or bad thing and luckily it was a good thing. When you first pop the disc in and start playing, you'll immediately notice that the graphics and the voice acting is better and different from the previous ones. The graphics are pretty good for the Wii and it's quite detailed. There's a lot of blood in this game too. The Voice Acting was done beautifully. The previous HOTDs' voice acting wasn't impressive. The script was also written perfectly. Although there are lots of swearing, it can become pretty funny. The characters were also well developed and they have some interesting backgrounds. They are all pretty funny. The game itself isn't too scary, but there were some small scary flicks to it. To me, this game is more funny than scary. The story was also written well.
There were some bad things though. The framerate varies all the time, as it can get slower at some points. It wasn't a big issue, but it does have some framerate issues. Sometimes, Mutants will just pop out of nowhere, but that's more of a visual glitch. The game itself is also quite short and easy, but there's plenty of replay value. Some may find it as a con, but they did drop the F Bombs a lot, but I didn't find it to be an issue.
For $50, I think that this was a well purchase and a nice addition to my library. It's kind of hard finding these kind of games these days and I think it's worth picking up. Just be ready for some framerate issues, but other than that... the pros outweigh the cons. For Light Gun Shooter Fans, it's a must buy.
