A fun mature shooter for the Wii with some minor setbacks

User Rating: 8.5 | The House of the Dead: Overkill WII
House of the dead as always been a blast to play in either the arcade or alone and now finally a brand new game in the series and it doesn't disappoint

GAMEPLAY:

The gameplay is basically house of the dead at heart it has some of the old zombies of past games like the fat ones, the ones with the mask on, and the ones that throw barrels and of course some of that annoying save the civilians for a bonus anyway in case your new to the series its a basic light gun shooter you aim your cursor and shoot anything that moves and at the end of each level there is a boss and then when you beat the level you get money and you can buy and upgrade weapons

the game is like an old 70's movie most of its influence is from "Grindhouse" and the announcer and grainy film look works perfect for the game and the cutscenes are almost like previews for the next level and they range from horrible to funny

the game stars an old fan favorite Agent G and his partner Issac Washington they both work for the AMS and they go all over from an old house to a train to a jail the environments range from refreshing to generic and bland the good news is for rookies it has allot of health unlike in the old games this game is much more forgiving like in game powerups(like mo-fo slow down which is like a bullet time and lets you pull off nice head shots) also its allot more gory and mature than previous titles also you can shoot off various body parts like arms or legs so they can crawl towards you also you can control the camera with your cursor but only left to right up and down and 4 mini games which at least one is fun plus 2 player Co-op (of course) and 4 player minigames

SOUND

the sound is pretty good the zombies sounds nice and the guns are decent also the voice actors are pretty good they don't sound bored BUT at the same time the things they say get from funny to ok..not funny anymore the game is full of the F-bomb I actually got sick of the F-word no joke I mean the movie Scarface has nothing on this game they use the F-word so much it gets too old and annoying fast also it has some songs dedicated to it (and of course the F-bomb is in it) and the music is pretty catchy

GRAPHICS

The game for both a Wii game and House of the dead game has some great graphics BUT at the same time the frame rate drops considerately to the point of annoyance especially in 2 player multiplayer also the cutscenes even though enjoyable the characters sometimes move weird and their mouths don't move like they are talking just open and close also the game at times becomes too dark and you can't really see the zombies from a distance until they are close

MULTIPLAYER

The multiplayer is fun you can play either the single player with a friend or the mini games up to four people the one complaint about the multiplayer is the frame rate gets worse and the aiming cursors look almost exactly the same

PRO'S

Fun fast paced shooter, stays true to its roots, great graphics, decent voice acting, the 70's atmosphere is fun, great music selection, love the gun shop element, after beating the single player campaign can play director's cut which is a longer and more enemies and a harder difficulty, has some replayability, bosses are cool looking

CON'S

Horrible frame rate even worse in Multiplayer, the game isn't that long, the F-bomb gets old, the dialogue sometimes gets old, not that hard, weapons are devastating even the 1st weapon you ever have when upgraded is the best gun in the game, the camera control is bad in mulitplayer, cursors in mulitplayer are hard to tell which is yours, boss battles even though cool are too easy, characters in cutscenes move weird, and sometimes the game gets too dark to see anything

CLOSING

If you take the game seriously then you won't like the game at all if you like to laugh and enjoy some gore then play the game if your a fan of the House of the dead series then you will most likely enjoy this game I personally enjoy the game just wish it had one more level and a bit (like 12%) harder and a brightness adjuster
