Great classic game
The graphics in this game aren’t very good, even though this game was made in 1998, the graphics very bad. From afar the graphics blocky and close up it’s just a mess of colour. The character models aren’t very good either; you can see where the torso joins the waist. The bosses though do look a bit better, it isn’t so blocky and isn’t a mess of colour close up. All-in-all the graphics isn’t very good.
GAME PLAY
The game play in this game is great, the game is basically an on-rails first person shooter; the computer moves your character. It’s an arcade port that uses a mouse to shoot instead of a light-gun (though you can still use one) and it works really well. You use a pistol as your weapon on the game. There are two modes to play, arcade; were the game is the same as the arcade. And P.C mode where you can chose a character to play as. In the game you must kill hordes of zombie and a boss at the end of each level, there are four levels in the game. In the levels you can shoot vases and barrels and sometimes there are bonuses inside them points or a life-up, also in the levels are researchers that are being attacked, save them you get a life, if the zombies kill them you get nothing, if you kill the researcher you lose a life. The zombie are very interactive, if you shoot a limb, it falls off, so if a zombies about to attack you with a axe, shoot the arm off and it can’t attack you, also if one has thrown something at you, you can shoot it and it won’t hit you. One of the best things about the game play is the replay ability; there are countless ways to complete the game, like the start to the second level after you kill the zombies in the room, the character will look at the floor, if you this tile you’ll go down a chute into a corridor, if not you’ll continue forwards. There are millions of situations like this in the game. You also can chose the number of bullets you have in a magazine, your number of lives you start with, the number of continues you have and the colour of the blood. This game starts off not very easy, but you will get to master it, in the end it will be very easy to complete, but you will keep playing because of the hundreds of ways to get round, unlike most games in this genre its extremely non-linear. All-in-all its game play is the best in the genre.
SOUND
The sound in the game is good; the music suits the game very well and doesn’t get annoying. The zombie sounds are good too, they sound good and sound as you would expect, the bullets make noises depending on what it hits, if it hits flesh, it makes a fleshy sound, if it hits metal you hear a ting, if it hits tilts you hear a clayey sound etc. The voice acting is O.K as well; the voices sound real and have emotion. All-in-all the sound is good.
STORY
The story is: December 18th 1998, Two AMS agents Thomas Rogan and “G” are sent to mansion were Dr. Currien has used his research team to create zombies and has unleashed them on the world in a bid end mankind. You must stop them as you work your way to Currien.
The story is good and has no plot-holes, it isn’t the most original, but it’s entertaining and makes sense, it also has three endings as well. All-in-all the story is good.
OVERALL
Overall this game is good; it is fun to play and won’t get boring quickly like most of these types of games. The only down-point is the graphics, but they won’t bother you too much. There are countless ways to win this and the game-play is fun. All-in-all this game is great.
