This game is pure fun but...

Wow is this a superhero game...golly gosh, i bet its going to be rubbish like every other one (bar the excellent Spiderman 2). Well we can be assured that it might be better than if was based on a film of a superhero.
These are probably the thoughts that go through the head of anyone who has any knowledge of past games. Well what can i say...I was wrong...
This game does what i don't think many games have done for a long time and that is really give the player a huge amount of enjoyment during gameplay. Sure games like FF7 are ultimately the best games ever but not every random battle is well fun...bringer of happiness. The game unsurprisngly is about the escapades of Bruce Banner the human who after being subjected to gamma rays found that he could become a huge muscular beast when he became angry, ultimately the hulk. The premise is that after his forest hideout is rumbled by the army he takes shelter with his friend Doc Sampson. However Banner feels that his mind is being altered by a darker force known as the devil hulk. Together he and Sampson aim to construct a machine that will allow him to rid his mind of the devil hulk. Along the way you'll be hampering the efforts of the army's Dircetor Emil Blonsky and General Thaddeus 'Thunderbolt' Ross who are both set on destroying the hulk, although Blonsky has other intentions.
Now as the name suggest the game is mostly about Destruction...the Ultimate kind. A lot of missions will require you to destroy some machine, structure or enemy and often or not retrieve something to take back to your hideout. There are also a couple protect and follow missions in there. The game's setting is quite interesting. It is set mostly in two large areas, an unamed City and the Badlands, a desert with a military base. You'll spend similar amount of time in each area with missions and side missions. However, enough of that, the gameplay is where this game shines. The hulk can move like most characters, he can run and jump. You can also dash which knocks stuff out the way such as cars and buses as well as posts. The hulk can also climb up and run up walls. However its the combat where the game shines. The hulk can attack in a number of ways, there are simple puch and kick combos that you an buy, some of which are very cool. The Hulk can also grab vehicles and objects. With them you can simply smash enemies or more fun you can throw them at enemies. Theres no feeling really like running up a building, bus in hand, then charging a jump out over a street, targeting a lower helicopter, and lobbing the bus at it...BOOM! Seriously it never gets tiring. Along with tis there is weaponization, a feature which allows the player to do stuff like turn a car into steel fists or a bus into a shield, which is really cool if not a little tiresome after a while. There are also grapples and air attacks but they aren't to interesting till later in the game when you get some truly devastating attacks.
Earlier i mentioned buying stuff, well in the game destroying stuff is rewarded with Smash Points (original huh) with which you can buy new moves and upgrades.
The game is around 15 hours long, maybe less if you speed through it, not doing all the side missions.
Normally i just list Cons but this is serious and also why it gets the score it does. This may make me sound like a Jessie but... the game is very hard...in parts...the game alternates between very easy and very hard, no alright or slight challenging...just both the verys. Don't even get me started on the final boss. I mean this on easy is just slightly easier than Viewtiful Joe on Adults mode and thats hard (plus i did it)
Anyway moving on...the graphics are pretty lame in all honesty but this is the 360 generation so i'll let it slide. Sounds are actually good...voices good, environments good, explosions fantasmal.
Apart from the difficulty, graphics and repetitive missions this is a great fun game to play, just play cleverly, style isn't rewarded.
